Screen locked with email open

I attempted to close my yahoo mail box and instead of closing, it minimized and is now frozen. I can see my screen saver in background but cannot access it. I have tried shutting off IPad but it will not shut off, only go to sleep mode.

Any help will be GREATLY appreciated!

Options

Hold power and home button at the same time for 7 seconds then let go of home and keep pressing power this will restart the ipad
