iPhone 4s won't recover, keep getting error 36 in itunes.

Hi there,

This iPhone 4s was in a horrible recovery loop getting all sorts of error messages. At times it would recover, install iOS7 and work for only a few hours only to slip back into recovery mode. I noticed the dock connector was dirty, corroded and missing a pin.

So I went in and changed that for a new one. All check out recovered into iOS7 no problems. Phone worked great in all regards, wifi, voice, speakers, bluetooth, battery in good condition. Went to sleep.

Next morning is was back in the recovery loop. This time I keep getting error 36 when I attempt iTunes recovery. I've recovering in DFU and non DFU about 30 times. Here is the error description from the log:

Restore completed, status:36

Failure Description:

Depth:0 Error:AMRestorePerformRestoreModeRestoreWithError failed with error: 36

Depth:1 Error:The operation couldn’t be completed. (AMRestoreErrorDomain error 36 - Failed to handle message type StatusMsg)

Depth:2 Error:The operation couldn’t be completed. (AMRestoreErrorDomain error 36 - failed to format effaceable storage)

Any advice is much appreciated. Cheers!

UPDATE: After trying a lot of different solutions. I decided to trash the iOS 7.1 IPSW from the Library here: /Users/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates. Then had iTunes re-download it after clicking restore and that got the recovery going without error 36. Let's see how long this lasts.

Not too long. Ran for about two hours. Everything working as normal. Installed apps, made phone calls, used wifi. Then kaput. Back to square one.
