How to replace the backlight?

Hello.

Recently the backlight of my macbook pro 13" (A1278) stopped working. I have opened the backcase disconnected the little ribbon cable and reconnected it. It does not work. Is there any other part that controls the backlight?

Also My keyboard isnt working for a long time. I used a usb keyboard instead. I've got a thunderbolt > hdmi converter so I can use my tv as display, but since I have to reinstall osx in order for thunderbolt to work, i cannot use my tv right now...

If I need to replace the backlight, how do I do this?

Thanks

dannyhtek, it could be an issue with your LVDS cable (try to reseat it), an issue with your LCD or (worst case scenario) backlight circuitry issues on your logic board. Start with the cable first.

Thanks for your suggestion. I have un- and replugged all cables on the motherboard including the cable you suggested, but no luck.. I think there's something wrong with the motherboard. I cannot start the Apple hardwaretest so I cant check for errors either..

The backlight circuitry fails mostly at these parts. The LED driver LP8550, the FDC638APZ mosfet as well as a bad fuse at F9700. All these parts are intricate and would require special tools and skills to diagnose and repair. Would you have the ability as well as equipment to either fix them yourself or have them fixed?

Nope I do not. I'm thinkin' about selling the macbook and get a mac mini instead..
