Display window is Black and not working

Recently, the exterior display window has not worked. I can't tell what mode the menu is and there's no way to find functions. Can I dis-assemble the camera to look for a bad connection? I'm an Electronics Tech, have worked on numerous small tiny devices so I'm sure to be OK with what I can do to to try to fix the problem. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
