An iDevice (includes iPod touches, iPhones and iPads) gives a black screen and iTunes will say it's in "recovery mode" if the device is in a state called DFU.

DFU stands for "Device Firmware Upgrade" and is used by people to downgrade and upgrade (reflash) the firmware (software) onto the device. Your data will be lost in the process but it's easy to get this problem over with.

First, make sure your device is plugged in and iTunes really does say it's in "recovery mode". Click Restore and follow the prompts on the screen. The process can take a few minutes, just relax and let the computer and iPod do its work. Eventually you should see your iPod touch boot up with an Apple logo and a progress bar. You'll be in fine shape soon.

Remember, restoring will erase all your data, but it's also the only way out of DFU mode.

PS: How you got into DFU mode.

DFU mode is activated if you press the right key combination (power+home button for 10 secs, then release power button and keep pressing home button), or if your boot partition on the touch has been tampered with and got corrupted.

Hope this helps!

could you be a little bit more specific ?

i didn't get the "total blackout but5 at the same time" part of your answer.

if the iPod touch wont start and itunes says that the connected iPod is in recovery mode - maybe you should first try to make a reset (press and hold home/sleep button for 10 seconds) and if that doesn't help - restore it with itunes
