Broke Number 3 connection cable during assembly

while replacing a friends iPhone 3GS front panel, (Broken glass) somehow during the closing of the unit, the #3 connection became broken. the unit will not work at all. Other than purchasing a new iPhone, does anyone know what my options are? Because the #3 connection broke, what was it actually attached to?

Thanks,

Ed

#3 is the proximity sensor - i would think that the device should at least start if that one would be faulty - maybe there is a different problem

and btw - is the cable defective or the connector on the logicboard ?

the connector is available. but changing it, is a job for a professional (still cheaper than a new 3gs)
