The hold button on top is broken

I just got my dads old iPhone and everything works perfectly fine but the hold button doesnt work. so i just have to wait after 1min for my phone lock itself so tht makes my battery die supper quick. does anybody know how i could fix it.

You can buy the part in the ifixit store, iPhone 3G/3GS Headphone Jack Assembly

This is quite a technical repair to perform, you might find them cheaper elsewhere or with labor included.
