Switching Stand for VESA Mount on Late 2013 Model

I am trying to swap out the base stand on a new iMac for the VESA mount. I have had no problem with older models (2011) but seem to be having difficulty with the new 2013 model.

Sorry to say you can't swap them out ;-{

Apple changed the design in the case & foot assembly so the VESA mount kit they sold won't work in the newer 'Thin' Models.

But don't despair quite yet here!

You can order a iMac with a VESA mount!

If you can, return your iMac ASAP as they might be able to swap it out for you to a unit that has the mount.

Hello there....

I have the same situation and question:

I do need to change the stand for a VESA mount and all I need (Apple refuses to help with this) to find out where I can get the needed parts and the VESA mount that goes with it. Any suggestions where to purchase it? Even if it a used one, has to be in good condition of course.

It's been a long time and I cannot return my iMac to exchange it for one that comes with the VESA mount. I even offered to pay for the shipping back and forth. The replacement and so on so that I can get the mount installed at the factory, they refused.

I told them that it was their fault that they do not inform people of such option. I'm very upset but very determined to get this mount for my unit.

Any help or suggestions on how to get this done will be appreciated.

Are you planing on a trip to mainland China? ;-} You would need to find a worker in the factory to lift the needed parts for you. Apple does not offer 'Any' spares for the VESA mount other than finding a junker to steal the parts from, thats it!

But, I do have a glimmer of hope for you here...

As it turns out one of our friends here at a school somehow ordered the wrong version of iMac's and got a bunch with the VESA mounts when he needed footed models. So he needed to open all of them up to swap out the mounts with a proper foot (which you can get as a spare). I had advised him to hold the parts as there are people willing to pay for them. Here's his story: VESA Mount Removal, Install new Foot. You'll need to post a request in this question and hopefully he'll pick it up. Make sure you update your info card info with your email address and point to it (don't put it in your request as you'll be hounded by junk mail & scammers).

It's a lot of work to open the system and if you're not careful you can damage the display in the process. You might want to think about getting a second system with the mount (new or used) and then migrate your stuff over and then sell your older system. Thats what I would do here.

I would recommend you post an email to Tim on your dismay. Sometimes that helps too.
