Hdd upgrade for late 2009 iMac

Hi

I have 27" iMac late 2009, with 1tb wd hdd.

Just bought new wd 2tb hdd model wd2002faex which is sata 3 and not 2.

Just wanted to make sure it's compatible with my model before i open my iMac, and is it a must to jumper the hdd to takd it down to 3gb/s???

Thanks in advance

As much as I like the WD Black series your system is not equipped to handle the SATA III (6.0 Gb/s) I/O this drive has, your system is only SATA II (3.0 Gb/s).

You'll need to lower the SATA speed down to SATA I (1.5 Gb/s) via a jumper. A better choice here is getting a SATA II drive.

Thanks for your reply...

The jumper settings will lower it to 3gb/s according to wd instructions...

Its hard to find a good sata ii drive nowadays.

Double check, if the newer ones do that will work.
