Can I replace the Retina panel?

I have a 2012 13" MacBook Pro with the Retina screen that is cracked. I noticed there are a few Retina panels on eBay (not the complete assembly) such as this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...

My question is, if I can get the already damaged panel out of the housing like the teardown: MacBook Pro Retina Display Teardown, would it be possible to replace it with just a new panel and not buy a whole new display unit? I have experience with Apple's MacBook LCD panels, I've replaced the screens in MacBook Airs before. Thanks.

It's the same idea with this one. The entire top clamshell assembly itself is like the LCD assembly in other computers. The aluminum case is the backplate, with backlight built right into it. The LCD panel bonded with front glass is adhered to the case. If you can replace the LCD panel on the MacBook Air(2010 or newer models), you should be able to replace the panel yourself.

The adhesive layout is slightly different, though. Make sure you buy all the necessary parts. And do not let any dust go into the backlight layers. A fine display like this makes even the smallest defects easily visible
