No chime, display or anything else, only LED#1 is ON. WHY?

imac 21.5", intel i3, 3.06 Gz, mid 2010, EMC 2389

There was a short-circuit in the wall and my imac went off, since then it hasnt turned on I presumed it might be the PSU that stopped fucntioning during the short-circuit, so I went ahead and bought a new PSU and after assembling it nothing changed. Among the 4 diagnostic LEDs, only LED#1 is ON whilst the power cord is connected to the wall. LED#1 blinks once and stays ON when the cord is connected to wall and the power button is pressed, it continues to stay ON until the cord is pulled off of the wall.

However, holding down the power button and then connecting the power cord to the wall, makes the fans go in full speed, but still the LED#1 stays on whatsoever. I dont even know if the SMC resettin works in this state, i tried anyway, but no different outcomes.

After doing evrything i could, im convinced the logic board is experiencing some trickle voltage.

Buying a new board wud be easier, but being poor doesnt always come with the set of easy options, hence, i thought if anyone with better knowledge and experience than mine could advice me on possiblity of fixing the trickle voltage situation in logic board.

Any advice would b greatly appreciated.

p.s. !@#$%^&*!@!! i need to write my thesis and m stuck with this pretentious ******* **** in the name of technology!

Another illustration why battery backup/surge protectors are a good investment.

I think you're right in that the surge blew through the PSU anddamaged the logic board.here's a good decision tree from Mayer about where fault can be found when the other lights fail (notice logic board failure is often a suspect). There may be a fuse inline before the PSU - I don't know if there or not.

Of course "resets" depend on fully functioning (for the most part) hardware.

You might be fortunate and still have a working HD. You could put it in an external case and access files from any working Mac.

You may have noticed burned or swollen components on the board - but - getting a board rebuilt or finding a used board/Mac are all cost decisions only you can make.

BTW any PC would not have survived the cause of this machines demise...

Thank you very much for the reply.

"BTW any PC would not have survived the cause of this machines demise..." - you r very much right with that statement.

However, now swollen or burnt out components r found. Any way, as it seems now that i wont b able to do much, thus perhaps i will just look for cheap repair services online for logic board or start selling the individual components to ebay or such.

Appreciate once again!
