Screen replaced on an iPod and now it just shows charging icon

My auntie asked me to replace the screen on her iPod touch 4G which i thought no problem I've done a few most recently my step daughters which went fine.

Well since replacing the screen i have been unable to power it back up, I've tried grounding the battery like it suggests using the terminal, all i seem to get either through PC or Plug on different chargers is a charging icon, even completely repeated the screen removal/fitting again.

I have noticed a little damage to the charging port but don't think its that because it brings up a charging icon.

Should i try the battery?.
