LCD display conncetor for iPod Video

Hi there. Am looking for the Omron 32way SMT header that the LCD display connects to on the logic board of a Gen 5.5 iPod Video. Omrons website suggest they don't even make one, or if they do it's manufactured under license directly to Apple. Don't see the point in paying for a new logic board when the problem is with a $2.00 header :) Thanks!

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

I don't think that you will find this part, the next thing is to install it - the broadcom chip next to the connector looks "glued" - there is an underfilling to prevent the bga's from breaking (never really works - but thats a different story)

so if you going to install the new connector the chip will get destroyed.

what happend to the connector of your iPod ?

Installing would be fairly straightforward. Have got the tools here for doing it )and a very steady hand) that would prevent any damage to the surrounding ICs. Just can't find a source for the header :(

The backlock snapped when the LCD display cable was being removed, so no way of being able to make a reliable electrical contact between the contact pins and the cable. Might have to find a dead logic board and try heating the part from the other side of the PCB to stop the header from melting.

ok, if you have the tools to do it - why not.

but as i said - watch out for the ic's with the underfilling
