Is my power button jammed or do I need a new assembly?

My wife has an iPhone 4 and the power button seems jammed. It doesn't press in anymore when you hit it, and you have to work it to get it to respond. I want to repair it but, as I am unfamiliar with the inner workings, is this more likely to be the button or the entire assembly?

It is likely the gold colored contact that the power button pushes against. They will lose their resilience and won't "pop" in and out like it did when it was working fine. I have made this fix by taking the very similar part from other iPhones (even of different models) and even have taken the part from the volume rocker of scrap iPhone 3G and placed under power button of iPhone 4S.
