Can I replace the earpiece by installing a digitizer assembly?

Hey all,

I have an iPhone 3GS, and the earpiece assembly needs to be replaced, as I can only hear calls when I have the phone on speaker.

My question is, would it be easier to simply order a digitizer assembly that would include the earpiece setup, and simply replace the digitizer? The one I have in mind is on eBay here: http://abv8.me/3z7

Or would it be easier to simply attempt to replace the earpiece assembly by itself? I tried swapping my earpiece out with one from an old 3G, but it didn't work right, and seemed more difficult than the digitizer replacement.

it doesn't have connector 3 for earpiece that i could see..

I replaced the earpiece, but the internal speaker still doesn't work. Do I need to replace the number 3 cable, and which part would I order?
