Fix a recording function fault on Denon DR-M22 cassette tape deck?

This machine now starts automatically when switched on, meaning it records over an existing recording unless allowed to warm up with the tape door open. How can I fix it please?

This could be due to a timer switch option. Some 80's era timer units simply switched the mains to the deck, so you left the deck switched on, but with power via the timer unit. When the timer fired, the deck then went into 'record' straight away. Check that you don't have a 'timer' function switch set to 'on.'
