It might be a contact problem. Try blowing some compressed air near the edges. If that does not work open it up using this guide:fix guide and make sure the connections are properly secured. If that does not work replacing it using the same guide.

Good Luck

So it could be one of two scenarios....

1. The cable is disconnected.

2. the cable is torn

the volume flex cable differs betwwen cdma and gsm. The Cable in verizon is a !@#$% to replace, but both are replaceable. CDMA volume cable is much longer and requires a technique of folding. The Silent switch, headphone jack, and volume are within the same flex cable on both cdma and gsm iphones. First discover what is it, 1 or 2. if its 1, just pust the connector back in place. if two, buy a new volume flex cable and replace it.

just know you will be replacing the headphone jack, silent switch and volume because they are all attached to the same cable

by

its probably not disconected because the headphone jack still works

by

so its probably torn where it splits to the volume button... because it splits one way to volume and one way to headphone jack...
