How do I fix a water damaged iPod?

My sister left my iPod in her pocket and it got washed in the washing machine. It will only turn on when I plug it into the charger and a sad face comes up and tells me to go to www.apple.com/support/iPod

Hi,

as the iPod got washed, you should open up the iPod and dry it out as fast as possible. To do so, follow the instructions in the repair section, then put it in a bag with uncooked rice for a couple of days. After that put it back together, charge it, start it up and tell us what's working and what not. Then we can help you to find out what's damaged.

Generally its hard to say what's damaged, when the iPod gets wet/washed.
