2G & WIFI, but no 3G (UMTS) function

Hi Guys, my phone works normally on 2G and Wifi - but when I try to enable 3G, it won't connect to 3G network. Tried swapping sim cards with my friend's iPhone which works in same location & network.

Apple says it's a hardware problem, but as there's a small scratch on the rear case, they refused to repair it under warranty as there's evidence of accidental damage.

I'm hoping it's a loose connection, or that I can replace the antenna.

Any ideas or experience on this one? Thanks in advance.

It fell about 5cm, (not a hard fall - unsure if it caused the problem). It's not jail broken.

There's a change that when you dropped it, you may have knocked the antenna out of place. You can open the phone and check, but I wouldn't open it if your not prepared to put it back together (and they're a real pain to put back together).

Thanks, Chris. I looked for information on where the UMTS aerial is located (or at least which part it is), but didn't find any. Do you know what connector number it is? It isn't the same as the WIFI antenna is it?

The cell radio aerial is at the bottom of the phone near the dock connector, and is inside the phone. The wi-fi, bluetooth and gps radios all share a connection to the chrome metal bezel around the outside of the case. Hope this helps, as i was searching similar info.
