phone works but screen is black

my phone works but cannot get anything on the screen. just black so cannot call or read texts. have tried to hard reset by pushing home and sleep buttons for 10 seconds. no joy. can i do anything else before opening phone up?

Options

Up the phone under a light to back sure the back light isn't blown. Then you'll have to open to make sure the LCD connection haven't come out of place
