How can I replace the flex?

The computers boots up. However, the screen turns on and off rapidly or doesn't turn on at all. The problem is independent of the position of the screen.

EDIT: Using a flashlight I realised that you can barely se the screen. So the problem is the backlight.

simon, exactly what flex are you trying to replace? the reason for not having a backlight could be a bad inverter, a bad LCD, a bad Lid swithc or even a failed backlight circuit (common failure on this model) it is under the right side hinge. "However, the screen turns on and off rapidly or doesn't turn on at all" sounds more like a broken backlight cable or a failing switch.

From what you are describing it is possible the flex cable is damaged as it carries power to the inverter for the back-light however it could also be a faulty inverter board.

The cable and inverter can be purchased for around $30 so perhaps just replacing both may be the best approach.
