dvd player making a buzzing noise

yesterday I was playing dvd's in my macbook no problem. today, the dvd player is rejecting all dvds out after it starts to read it, then it makes a strange low humming noise( like it is stuck in 1 spot or something), then it rejects the dvd. I have tried 3 different dvd's and it has done it to all 3. The dvd player did do this once before about 3 weeks ago, but it seemed to have fixed itself because I have been watching dvd's on it all week this past week....should I take it in to get fixed and pay a ridiculous amount for something that I could have done myself?

Can you supply your last four digits of your serial number so we can correctly identify which MacBook Pro model you have.

I would get a CD/DVD head cleaner disk (has a micro brush to clean the reader lens) and a can of can'ed air.

Carefully stick the can'ed air straw just through the dust baffle and give it a very short burst aiming it straight back in the middle of the slot and then try the cleaning disk. Hopefully it's just dirt on the rails and/or head.

Replacing the optical drive is not too difficult are you willing to give it a try? First make sure you have the correct gear (tools, ESD mat & wrist strap).
