shuts off when switching to picture or record mode on new batteries

I had this camera for about 8 years, and this problem creeped up lately.

It runs on a pair of standard AA batteries, and it feels like it lacks in power. When I switch to picture or video mode, it opens the lens and then shuts off. seems like a short circuit.

I think it needs a full disassembly and contact clean. The problem is, I can't find any detailed disassembly or repair manuals, except ones that demand money.

I don't like disassembling it blind, but unless someone here already did, I'll risk it, and post it here.

Hopefully I won't be needing a new camera after that.
