xoom wouldn't shut off pulled the battery. How do I diagnose?

My Xoom is the early style (600 series). In spite of all it's faithfull service,it stopped responding one day and refused to shut down with the power button.I gave it 12 hrs. and decided to manually disconnect the battery.I followed the procedure set forth in this site to remove it.I'm not too certain the problem was caused by the battery. If any one knows what to look for that might need replacing please enlighten me. Frank

Several weeks after posting this question, someone else posted same problem.Eventually their solution was disconnecting the power supplky ribbon to the switch. After moving it around and "playing with it" he re-assembled it and it started working.Sounded like corrosion or foreign material in the terminals. That's what I'm going to look at next. Will post results.

I pulled the contacts to the power switch apart as our friend did and made certain it was getting contact, cleaned what I could, tested the voltage and by now it has dropped to 2.5v

Checked if it's taking charge & the charging port contacts are worn beyond use.I'm now charging it directly to the battery terminals,it's taking a chrge while I write this.I'm a little concerned that it may be desighned to pass through some other components but hey-I have to start somewhere. Will update as I progress.

Quick tip: If you ever upgraded to Cyanogen Mod, if this problem appears, use Power + VolumeUp buttons together. It kills all apps and shuts down tablet without further ado.
