Sarah, what type of surge protector are you using. Have you tried a different outlet for the XBox?

by

I don't know it's old..lol! But if it was the surge protector wouldn't it effect the other things plugged into it? No, I haven't tried using a different plug

by

It's okay if it is old, but I would just check. Unplug your XBox from the surge protector and pug it into a wall outlet. See if that makes a difference. Just a hunch that I have based on your statement "it just turns off and won't turn back on until I turn off the surge protector and switch it back on"

by

I will give it a try, thanks for the help!

by

Its not the surge protector. Everyone always says the simplest things, mine shuts off within 2 min of turning on then randomly turns itself off and on. Its not overheating its not the outlet or surge protecot it has to be in the system itself. Dont u think any other thing plugged into the surge protector would go off also and any half minded numbskull would check that first thing. What is really causing the problem thats the answer i want

Probably overheating. Buy a can of compressed air, and give it a good dusting. Also ensure that it is an open area so that it may breathe, also ensure the power supply is able to breathe as well. I would also blow out the power supply as well.

If you provide more detail I can help you further;

What type of xbox?

Are any lights active when it shuts down? (Power supply light, red ring, etc)

How often does this happen?

Good luck!

Nate

I did check it (by touch) and it was not even warm. I have an Xbox 360, and no lights when it shuts down, but I do have to reset the surge protector to get the Xbox to turn back on. It happened 3 times today, it had only been on for about 30 minutes each time and as I said it just turns off and won't turn back on until I turn off the surge protector and switch it back on. Couldn't tell you about the lights prior to it shutting down, but no ring of death when it restarts.

i have thesame problem but last night when i open my xbox360 slim i found out that it deosnt have a hard drive ? but i have use it before so idk if thats the problem now

by

I think it is hard drive damage. If you have dropped or hit your Xbox recently you might have a broken hard drive, or another broken part in the system. Or have you installed any updates recently? and did the problems start after you updated your xbox or did something to it? Have all the crashes been on the same game or different games? (Please answer as many of these questions as you can because I could probably seriously help you)

I keep my power pack either in front of fan, on air vent or even on cool pad and still it shuts off. So what is wrong and its not even warm

Your Xbox 360 is overheating. Your solution is as follows:

A: The thermal paste between processors and heatsink needs to be cleaned and replaced. This will allow your xbox 360 to transfer heat more easily RELIEVING THE OVERHEATING ISSUE.

B: a REFLOW WOULD NOT HURT TO REVERSE AN DAMAGE ALREADY CAUSED.

It isnt overheating, mine is doing the sMe thing except it shuts off in less than 2 min after turning it on. Doesnt matter where its plugged in. The wierdest part is it turns backon itself after a short period of ti.e

There is a short in your power supply. I literally just discovered this. Either buy a new power supply or the next time it turns off move the cord that goes into the power supply box around gently until the Xbox turns back on. Maybe that wil help

This issue happened to me, tried the surge protector, checked my power supply for over heating. The issue ended up being the power ribbon running behind the face plate. Xbox 360 Slim

i Had this issue, it ended up being the flex for the touch power/ cd eject buttons. to make sure that's the issue i removed the face of the xbox and disconnected the flex. xbox worked flawlessly after that so i just replaced the flex. no problems since.
