How difficult is a bezel replacement?

Whilst trying to change the screen from my iPod Touch 4th gen, I began to remove the screen on the incorrect side of the bezel. (In-between the bezel and the case, not the bezel and the glass) and as a consequence, the bezel is partially out of the case at one corner and for the life of me I cannot get it back in!

I was just wondering how difficult it would be to do a full bezel replacement? I've looked on eBay and the bezel looks different to how it did on the iPod Touch 2nd Gen so I'm unsure where to go with this one.

Unless anyone could offer me and additional advice to getting this darn thing to fit rather than having to do a whole replacement!

I thank you in advance.

Hi Sam,

Here is my recommendation: If the bezel creates an issue for the digitizer/LCD unit, I would definitely replace it. The risk for the glass is too high to crack later, especially when there is a hollow between the glass and the bezel/inside metal plate. Pushing/using the home button might also create an issue.

Yes, the bezel looks different compared with an iPod Touch 2. However, to replace the bezel is not really difficult. I recommend using the teardown of the iPod Touch 4 to work your way forward. Unfortunately, you have to remove everything before you can work on the old bezel.

You can try to use a guitar pick or something similar to pry out the old bezel from the back panel. Just be very careful and take your time.

I hope this is helpful.

Steffen

Ouch! That looks like some serious hard work with everything being soldered onto the logic board.

I'll just double check that there is no way for me to get the bezel in the case otherwise I'll have to do this tear-down.

Thanks for your help!
