Replace SSD MacBook Pro retina 13" with Seagate SSHD Laptop thin?

Hey guys, you teared down the macbook pro 13" retina already and said you'll try to find out, if you could replace the hard drive with a normal HD. How far is that process?

And would it be possible to build in the new seagate Laptop SSHD thin, which would be an awesome combination in my view? Is the connection cable at the right place for normal Hard drives? It would be really great to get an answer on that. thanks!

When iFixIt reviewed the MacBook Pro retina they noted the area were the flash storage was located was larger than the flash storage module. It was thought Apple was making more room for a future HD option as some of the HD vendors had demo'ed some ultra thin & low power drives.

Sorry to say so far nothing has come out as an option. There are some issues here as the flash storage module does not have a mSATA connection (looks similar but it's not) and the cable assembly is likewise custom. You might get a drive to physically fit you have no means to connect it.

As to your options today - You can go to a few 3rd party suppliers to get larger flash storage options that will work.

This model has flash storage rather than a hard drive. Originally, the MD212LL/A configuration also could be equipped with 256 GB, 512 GB, or 768 GB of flash storage for an extra US$300, US$800, or US$1300, respectively.

Apple does not intend for one to upgrade the SSD after purchase, but it is quite possible. OWC has determined that their SSD for the 15-Inch Retina Display MacBook Pro also will work in the 13-Inch Retina Display models and a 2.5" SSD that is 7 mm in height or smaller may work if equipped with a custom cable.
