Why is one of my memory cards missing?

My computer has been running exceptionally slow lately and when I tried to figure out why, I noticed I only have half the RAM I normally do because my computer only recognizes one memory card. My macbook still has the original two 2GB 1067 MHz DDR3 cards. Any idea what is going on and what I can do about this? My applecare is now expired so I'm hoping to find some options.

It seems to me like either your RAM module has gone bad or the connection to the Logic Board itself might be bad. I would try checking the RAM to make sure it is seated properly. If it is then try swapping the two RAM sticks in different slots to isolate the bad RAM/Slot. Hopefully, it's just the RAM stick which is a pretty inexpensive fix. Try this guide Here. Hope it helps.
