Why has the sound disappeared?

Was watching tv when the content screen came up by itself and a countdown appeared. When it finished the sound disappeared. Have unplugged set to reboot, checked connections and tried manuals and menus for solution. Does anyone know how to fix it? It's quite a new tv so I'm not really up to speed yet and I don't have a resident teenager.

I'd be really grateful for any help.
