How do I install my Backlight IC coil thing? Any tips?

I dropped my phone in water, and now my backlight doesn't work. I heard that I should replace the backlight on my phone, but even if I buy the backlight IC or coil thing, I don't know how to install it. Do I need to know how to solder? Or is there someone that I can be referred to that can install it for me for cheap? Thanks.

Hi Colton,

There might still be water in your iPhone. Therefore, I would first open the iPhone, would remove the motherboard and soak it in isopropyl alcohol (90%). Also, clean it carefully with a small brush, also the LCD/digitizer unit. Let everything dry for a couple of days before you put it back together. Then see, if the backlight is still bad. For disassembling it, follow this guide: iPhone 4 Logic Board Replacement

In case the backlight is still bad, here is what you might end up needing:

You need to desolder the coil and (possibly) the IC on the motherboard. If you are skilled in soldering, I would try it. If not, I would look for a place where you live that is able to fix it.

I hope this helps.

Steffen
