Is slow charging with replacement battery a symptom?

I purchased a battery on ebay, it wasn't until I started searching for the problem that I found this site... sorry.

The original PN of the 3gs that I removed is 616-0431, I don't know what the PN was of the battery that I installed. I will probably need to crack it open again.

The problem that I am seeing is that is senses the charger (tried charger and notebook USB, same problem). But, it will add about 1% per hour... maybe.

If the charging component in the iPhone is toasted, would it be either working or not. And, does this mean that there is a problem with the battery instead.

Unfortunately the battery that I had pulled from the 3GS was completely gone and the iPhone wouldn't bootup, even when plugged in. So, I can't put the old battery in to test.

I've read bunches of posts, about dead batteries, incompatible etc. But haven't found one specific to a slow charge. Is it a bad battery and does iFixit sell one that would be compatible?

thanks in advance,

j

JMp, it is most certainly possible that this is caused by your battery. It is also possible that this is due to a bad charging coil or power management IC. I would start by replacing the battery again. Get one from here. At least with that one you will know it is for the 3GS and you will get great support if there would be issues with that battery. Hope this helps, good luck.

Installed the new battery from iFixit, unfortunately the problem still exists. I'm afraid the other options, the coil or power management IC aren't worth replacing on this phone. regards, j
