Why does the screen scroll uncontrollably?

The battery does not hold charge and after I charge it, it may show me my music but then it immediately scrolls uncontrollably not allowing its use.

Is this a good question?

When you say it scrolls, what exactly do you mean? Does it look like you have your finger on the click wheel? You also said your battery does not hold a charge and then you say it charges, Does that mean is just needed to be charged, or it turns off after a short while because it runs out of power? Did anything happen to the iPod or did this just start?

RE Battery... it 'seem' like it charges but when i turn it on it goes dead in about 30 minutes or less. Meaning I give up and go to other sources of music.

RE Scrolling... it looks like it is scrolling so fast you cannot see what is going on... is like a blur of songs (I presume) that goes so fast. I have never seen the it go that fast by putting finger on the click wheel.

Summary: the scrolling issue renders the ipod un-usable and these issues have been going on for some time. It served me well for a few years and i just uses some other technology. BUT when I discovered 'Ifixit.com' I decided to check it out and maybe bring my ipod back to live (sort of a retro thing).

Maybe I could chg out the battery and go from there? WDYT.

Allen Cetto, from your description, there are two things I definitely would consider. First one is to change the battery for a new one. Second is to replace the click wheel. A faulty click wheel could cause this. Neither one of these parts is very expensive, nor difficult to fix. Just use these guides here. Watch out for the battery connector, is had a bad habit of breaking of the logic board. Hope this helps, good luck
