I need to install a larger hard drive in my iMac. It currently has a 500GB drive. Not sure what kind of hard drive is needed ie 3.5", sata, ide. The tutorial are great and it does not look difficult just not sure which hard drive to buy.

Any 3.5" SATA II (3 Gb/s) drive up to 4TB. You can try a SATA III but be aware that many people come here who have put a "backward compatible" hard drive in their machines with freeze/hang/format problems... so be certain that if your vendor claims a new HD will work they will exchange/refund if it doesn't.
