status light does not work

Apple TV 1st Generation YM04728DYR4, the device works properly with the paired remote. But the status light does not light up at all under any circumstance.

The deice stays hot but I do not find a way to turn it off or on. It always seems to be on. IS THERE A WAY TO TURN IT OFF?

james cowley, there is no real way to turn it Off. Press and hold Select for five seconds (or go to Settings > Sleep Now on Apple TV (2nd generation) or Settings > Standby on Apple TV (1st generation) Apparently the 1st generation does get fairly hot since it uses part of the body as a heat sink. for as long as it does not power down due to the heat, I would not worry to much about it. there are discussions on different forums about different rubber feet as well as converting to SSD with no real results about the heat. As for your LED Staus light, check this answer.
