My iPhone battery percentage is wrong from the symbol

My iphone percentage says it is 1 percent battery but the symbol on the screen says its is fully charged. When i take my charger out, it is at one percent and the battery is red but it doesn't die

Options

I would try going to iTunes, backup, restore and update if update is needed. Next option is replacing the battery but it sounds like a software issue.
