home button ribbon cable

replacement home button cable is backwards, does the metal circle have to be touching the phone, or does it matter, like, can it be against the button.

There should be a side with adhesive on it, that side sticks to the back side of your home button and yes the opposite side or what I think you are calling the metal circle goes against the phone in order for it to work, double check that it's backwards, it can be a little deceiving because the phone is upside down when you install the cable, good luck.
