Original HD into external case problem, due to 'lugs'?

Have replaced the original HD in my mid 2011 Mac Mini and want to know how to remove the two 'lugs' that are on the drive where two of the four screw holes on the side of the HD normally are? These lugs prevent the HD from fitting into an external case, due to clearance problems.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Can you supply an image of these 'lugs' as well as info on the HD you are installing that has these lugs. I suspect you have the wrong sized HD (too tall).

Thanks Dan. I got it all wrong as the 'lugs' were screws. It was the original HD in the Mac Mini I was referring to. I didn't do the actual replacement myself, just got handed back the drive and computer. Once I watched the video on how to do the replacement after it was done I realized they took a torx bit.

Yep, they do come out ;-} Did you get the HD installed in your other system?

Hi Dan, Yeah, I got it to fit into an external case fine once the screws were out of the way. Now got a bootable external drive to back up onto.
