RAM upgrade for A1278
If I want to upgrade to 6GB's, do I have to replace both chips, or can I just purchase the 4GB chip and use one of my existing 2GB chips?

The official Apple limit of this system is 4GB (two 2GB chips).
Yes, you can use one 2GB and one 4GB chip to get 6GB of memory (It's not Apple officially supported). Make sure you have applied the latest EFI Apple TN on EFI updates. Also make sure you have matching PC3-8500 DDR3 memory modules.
