Is the replacement screen gorilla glass?

Is the replacement screen for IPad 2 exactly the same as the original? Is it gorilla glass?

Apple has never stated if they use Corning's Gorilla glass, so it's hard to tell you one way or the other if the screen you currently have is or is not. In addition, Corning has never stated if Apple was one of their customers. Other glass companies (in Asia) make similar glass so they could be Apples' supplier.

The other factor:

Just like cars there are outfits that sell their own copies of replacement parts (not the original supplier to Apple) so you could be getting something not as good or it even could be better! Just look at the 3rd party memory or replacement battery suppliers. They often have better spec'ed chips or batts than what Apple contracts for (excluding the newest non-replacable battery models).

So, the question is who you are ordering the part from, and if the packaging of the part is Apples when you get it (the only clue if you are getting Apples or someone else's).

If you do get someone else's part you'll need to ask them who the source of the glass was. Good Luck!

Update: In todays Apple new iPhone 5 announcement Corning's Gorilla Glass II was stated as the glass used for the new in-plane digitizer/cover glass.
