My Problem
RROD FROM A PREVIOUS PROFESSIONAL REPAIR. I have another XBox that had the same company fix it. It is dead as well. I wanted to see how this fix went before ordering more parts.
My Fix
The repair went very smoothly. The kit had some very well thought out tools and remedies. So far the repair is holding after 4 days of extended use.
My Advice
We had already sent off this XBox and another to a professional repair facility in NY. Many of the fixes were done...but not very well. So we bought this kit for $30 and went for it. 1st..Do the repair in a very well lit room with lots of space to lay out the console parts as they are detached. Don't open the parts bag until you need to. The small parts are easily lost and there are no extra pieces. The only scary part was re-flowing the solder with a heat gun. KEEP IT MOVING AND DON'T GET TOO CLOSE! After thoroughly cleaning the processors and re-applying thermal paste, stand the mother board up and stick the screws through the board then add the washers. Gently line up the heat sinks one at a time and tighten the screws with your fingers to get them snug. Then screw them down with the provided driver. Re-assembly of the complete console is pretty easy....most parts just snap together. Have fun.
