MacBook Upper Case Cable

$29.95

Product code: IF186-092
Apple Part #: 922-7991

Product Overview

Replace a damaged upper case cable and restore function to your upper case again. This cable transmits that data from the power button, keyboard, and trackpad to your MacBook's logic board

Note: There are two different types of cables for the MacBook. The older version uses a brown Foxconn cable and the newer version uses a silver cable. The cable must be replaced with a similar cable or your upper case will not function properly.

My Problem

I started out having to replace the Dvd drive as it was not working. I was putting everything back when I broke the keyboard ribbon cable.

My Fix

I used the ifixit repair guides and it went smoothly. They are fantastic! My MacBook is working fine with a brand new dvd superdrive. The keyboard and the buttons work fine.

My Advice

I would say to use bathroom cups for the screws to keep them separate. It sure would have helped to have a screw driver with a magnetic tip. It is very difficult to get the screws just right back into the tiny hole.

My Problem

I couldn't start the laptop, so I had to fix it.

My Fix

It went perfectly, I've received the parts in just five days, by regular mail. Considering that I live in Spain. That was very fast.

My Advice

Just be very careful with the Mackbook Upper case and it should go fine, and that in the other end of the cable(the one closer to the keyword, not the closer one to main board), you have to lift a small plastic that retains the cable. In stead of just pulling the cable out.

My Problem

I wanted to resell my MacBook rather than throw it in the garbage. The problem was the broken keyboard cable. So for $33 dollars and 30 minutes of my time I have a working MacBook that I can sell back to Apple for $221. Net gain of $188. Just enough to reinvest in a new iPod nano.

My Fix

Much easier than it looked from the photos.

My Advice

Your old Mac is worth money. Fix it so someone else can use it.

My Problem

I was following another iFixit guide, replacing the Bluetooth module of my MacBook (this was a success), when I discovered that during the disassembly I had caused the failure of the keyboard and trackpad. Guessing that I had somehow damaged the Upper Case Cable, I ordered this part from iFixit and replaced it. A fix that caused me to need another fix (ugh).

My Fix

I had no issues with the Upper Case Cable replacing. It is, however, an extremely delicate part, involving precise placement and near microscopic ZIF socket release bars. I am just glad none of those broke off.

My Advice

You really need the spudger tool for this task. It may seem simple, but it's essential. Get it.
