Product code: IF186-044
Apple Part #: 922-9550, 922-8264, 922-8265, 661-5075, 661-5076

Product Overview

In the past, laptops responded best to full-body contact and verbal abuse. The laptops of today have a more sensitive nature. Preferring communication through keyboards and trackpads, the modern laptop does not take well to the old way of computer interfacing.

For MacBook (Santa Rosa/Penryn) owners still living in the golden days, we sell replacement upper cases with keyboard to get your MacBook back to responsive condition.

Includes keyboard (with function keys for Expose, Dashboard, and media playback), palmrest area, trackpad, trackpad cable, and power button.

NOTE: This upper case has been tested and functions in all model A1181 MacBooks, including MacBooks that originally shipped with an upper case with a different function key layout. This upper case can be installed in these early model MacBooks as an upgrade, and all function keys will operate properly.

My Problem

My wife's laptop had a tragic encounter with some spilled wine. I used iFixit guides to strip down and clean the entire machine, but the innermost layers of the keyboard are permanently sealed and I couldn't get most of the keys working again no matter how clean they looked.

My Fix

The repair was smooth and easy. I'd removed to upper case once before during the cleaning, so the later removal and replacement only took about 15 minutes from battery out to battery in.

My Advice

To keep track of all the screws involved in this repair, I drew a quick sketch of the bottom of the MacBook and taped each screw to the drawing in the place I got it from. This kept all the screws from rolling away and told me precisely where to put them back.

My Problem

My wife's trackpad had stopped working.

My Fix

It went fine until I lost one of the case screws.

My Advice

Work someplace with a white floor - it makes it a lot easier to see those tiny screws.

My Problem

Several keys and click pad stopped working

My Fix

PERFECT! The right part arrived quickly, I downloaded the step-by-step instructions...followed them EXACTLY and viola!....done! I can't thank you enough. I tried a local 'igeeks' repair shop weeks before but they couldn't get the right part nor do I believe they could have fixed it. With your site - I got the right part, easy to follow instructions and did it myself. THANK YOU!...this is the way a repair site should work!!!

My Advice

Follow the instructions exactly and you'll be up and running in no time!

My Problem

Unfortunately I was drinking orange juice next to my computer and I ruined the keyboard. I opened it up, cleaned it with alcohol, dried it and it worked for a couple of weeks. Then it just started typing on its own, which meant I needed a new keyboard.

My Fix

The repair went perfect! I removed the other keyboard, replaced it with the new one and now I am actually typing from my fixed computer :)

My Advice

Before the keyboard stop functioning. It was slithly broken in the right hand side corner. To fix it, I put crazyglue, which made it a little difficult to remove when I was replacing it.

Also, it is very important to lift the keyboard from the left hand side first (when removing it).

My Problem

My Mac Book keyboard wasn't working

My Fix

It was really easy with your guide instructions. I made the installation in about 25 minutes. The part arrives really fast. This is not the first time I ordered from you and I always got a good service.

My Advice

It was very easy. I will recommend you to all my friends and family. Your illustrations in your guides are really good so it is very difficult to make a mistake. I called in two or three occasions for help choosing the correct part for my computer model and I got a really good support from the employees.

My Problem

One (or five) too many times slamming my fist into the keyboard/trackpad left my poor '08 Penryn MacBook a bit... shall we say "skittish"? Jumpy cursor, semi-inactive button. Even the heels of my palms resting on the top case was enough pressure to cause a "click." Oddly, the symptoms came and went.

My Fix

Anyway-- I figured that while I was fixing the problem, I might as well get a little funky. Ordered the black top case for my white MacBook. Why not? Easy-peasy installation. In and out in half an hour, maybe less.

My Advice

Apple's design on this product is a bit flawed. Any but the gentlest closing of the lid (screen) onto the top case (keyboard) will cause the two small ridges on the lid to crack the top case where they meet it. Yes, those two, inch-long ridges located about an inch in from each side, and very near to the upper edge of the lid. My top case cracked (on the right side, not the left, oddly) not terribly long after I bought this Mac new, despite the fact that I was normally gentle with it. The damage manifested as a few millimeters of the top case surface breaking off along about two inches of the edge, just beneath the right-side lid ridge, exposing a narrow slot into the laptop innards, which I taped to keep clear of debris. (This issue is unrelated to my admitted violence to the keyboard which necessitated this repair-- just an observation about product design.)

My Problem

Bad MacBook Hard drive and Keyboard/touch pad

My Fix

Awesome! The parts arrived quickly. The online instructions made the repairs very easy and my 5 year old MacBook is like new again! Thank you!

My Advice

Fixing and updating your computer is easy. Just make sure your next new computer purchase allows you to to this because some of the new things coming out are self contained and un-openable

My Problem

My client complained about problems of the cursor "jumping" around the screen when trying to type, as well as a delay when typing. Upon inspection, indeed no matter where you attempted to type (email, document, web browser) there was a delay before anything was on the screen and the cursor was all over the place.

Time to replace the upper case.

My Fix

I've done this repair over 100 times now and its super simple. Just keep track of your screws. :)

My Advice

Make sure you have a magnetized screw driver/bit. And the almighty spudger! :)

My Problem

One of our missionaries had a "WhiteBook" MacBook, she used in the small villages of Liberia west Africa. The problem was upper case stopped working so she had to carry a usb keyboard with her, in order to use the computer. The keyboard was bigger than the laptop.

My Fix

I order a replacement upper case from iFixit, it arrived very fast. I followed the guides to remove the case, then just reversed the process and installed the new case. Now everything is back up and working great, and the laptop is ounce again a true laptop. Thanks ifixit!

My Advice

Keep your laptop clean.

My Problem

Keys missing and malfunctioning.

My Fix

Great!

My Advice

Instructions work perfectly.
