Product Overview

In a world dominated by heat-fatigued electronics, fans rise up as heroes, providing relief in otherwise scaldingly hot conditions.

Though few in number, your 15" MacBook Pro (Model A1150) fans flourish their blades against the tyranny of heat that oppresses your computer internals. Embracing peril in sweltering conditions, this fan fights to defend your components from the unjust abuse of brutal temperatures. Replace expiring veteran fans to give your components the sweet relief they're longing for.

This left fan assembly includes the surrounding retaining metal bracket and left fan connector. The screws securing the fan to the logic board are not included with assembly.

Not sure which is the left fan and which is the right fan? Don't sweat, we've got you covered.

How to correctly identify the orientation of each fan in a MacBook Pro 15" (Model A1150):

My Problem

Well. As like everyone, once you hear a noise, you start to get frustrated. The Noise goes off and comes back on, and keeps bothering you. So next step, is either break your computer, or take it to someone to repair it. and let them charge you a fortune to fix a little problem. which maybe you can fix your self. if you tried.

The place to find a solution - ifixit.. hats off to you guys, seriously. i cant believe how easy it is to fix something.

My Fix

It was so easy, this is my third time i have ordered fans. i got many laptops.. and all needed a fan replacement. As this was my third time buying, i even didn't need to open the guide to see. (but for sure i check it right after i put it all back together. just to double check i did it right). And i did.

I got to say. i am very excited. its something anybody can do. And as long as you follow the guidelines. not much can go wrong. and if it does. Im sure ifixit will be more than happy to help you.

My Advice

Dont touch anything until you first see the guides. Thats what they are for. to show you whats underneath. Once your ready. just got for it. you will be very satisfied with the end result. happy fixing with ifixit. you guys rock. simple and efficient and effective.

My Problem

Left fan failed hardware test. Computer got really hot.

My Fix

Followed the guide, worked great!

My Advice

Don't be afraid to use a bit of force. Computer was tough to get open.

My Problem

My left fan was in trouble and seemed to stop after a prolonged period of emitting _really_ loud noises.

My Fix

Bought the fan from ifixit. Fired up the relevant guide (which I already familiarized myself with in the weeks before) and just did it. Was a quick operation (~30min, including paranoid checking of screws/guide/electrical tape/etc.) and went great!

My Advice

The only thing that's a little hard to do was getting the keyboard to seperate from the fuselage. But like mentioned in the comments: it just needs little unusually strong help and everything's smooth from then on.

Guide, pictures & comments are all accurate. They displayed everthing that was present in my 5 year old device and helped me to do what I wanted without worrying too much. But I worry too much anyway so don't let my worrying distract you ;)

My Problem

the fan was making noise.

My Fix

Very good. Thank you.

My Advice

Thank you again.

My Problem

Both left and right fans were very noisy and needed replacing, as previous repairs had only temporarily solved the problem. I ordered both a left and right replacement fan from iFixit.

My Fix

The repair was straightforward, pretty easy to do with the iFixit instructions and correct tools. However, the left replacement fan bottom housing had a screw tab that was too thick to slide in properly in the slot under the tab from the left speaker. I had to disassemble the left fan (simply removing two screws and lifting the fan off the bottom housing) and then replace the housing with the one from the original left fan. This worked fine, and everything then fit properly.

My Advice

If you need to replace the left fan on this model (MacBook a1150) compare the screw tab to the original fan make sure it is the same thickness as the original. The tab in question is one closest to the mouth opening of the fan. If it is not, you can swap the housings like I did.

My Problem

MacBook Pro was used as a full blown, permanently powered, home computer. smcFanControl had the fans running at 6000RPM constantly…all this for about 2-3 years…

Needless to say, they died!

Tried re-oiling the fan pins…worked for a little while, but they were gone!

My Fix

The iFixit walkthrough was the easiest thing on the web to follow. Fans replaced in no time and are running b-e-a-utifully! Awesome-sauce!!!

My Advice

One tip to save your a$$:

Follow the guide LETTER-BY-LETTER.

Do that, and you will have a much better chance of quick and through success :)
