My Problem

The Airport Extreme card just stopped working. It was obvious that I needed to be replaced.

My Fix

The repair went very easily once we read the iFixit repair guide. It was a very simple and easily installation.

My Advice

DON'T USE APPLE'S REPAIR GUIDE! It is overblown, complicated, and ended up being just plain wrong. I believe they do this to encourage end users to take their item to the Genius Bar. Always use iFixit's guides. They are simple and don't require any unnecessary work.

My Problem

iMac: I bought a new iMac and wanted to set up the old G5 iMac in the upstairs office for occasional use and needed to have it wireless capable to do so. I also still needed the old horse since I still use some apps that are Power PC which the new iMacs with Lion do NOT support. iBook: This was years ago, but the backlight on the screen went out. New screen - $300; inverter cable on ebay - $17; iFixit guide - priceless!

My Fix

iMac: The card came fast and like new from iFixit. This is arguably the easiest thing you can do in the entire iFixit list. Anyone can do it! No photos required. iBook: I used iFixit years ago to replace an inverter backlight cable on my son's old ibook, and that required disassembling the entire computer and screen. It was quite a challenge, but with the iFixit guide, and the handy screw guide, we did it. The pics below are from that. Note the loop in the faulty inverter cable; I can't help but think it was installed that way.

My Advice

iMac: Just realize it's 802.11g, so compared to having the iMac G5 hooked up via ethernet with very good isp speed, it might be a little slower (even with my airport extreme base station 802.11n dual band), but it's an easy, affordable solution for relocating an oldie but goodie computer! iBook: Patience and attention to detail.

My Problem

Yes - the first airport card I received was broken (some of the gold was off the tip), but I bought a 2nd one - and it is up and running.

My Fix

Perfect the second time around!

My Advice

I would use them again!

My Problem

install airport card for a MDD G4 mac FW 800

My Fix

easy

My Advice

After buying the wrong airport card at an "other" vender , I ordered the right one after doing a little research on your site. My fault for not doing my homework on the MDD FW 800 mac G4. Word of advice would be to know your mac. It matters

My Problem

I got a Mac PowerBook G4 laptop from Craigslist but it didn't have wireless internet. I needed to buy and install an Airport Extreme Card in order to get wireless internet access so I came to iFixit looking for one. I found one and bought it.

My Fix

My package from iFixit arrived at my house quickly and with the online instructions provided from iFixit.com I easily installed it myself. It works great and I don't have to connect my ethernet cable to my laptop to get on the internet!

My Advice

I recommend iFixit.com for any Mac owner who is interested in adding an Airport card to their computer to get wireless internet access.
