Can this model of older MacBook Pro be upgraded to Lion?

I have an older model macbook pro (2.16 GHz (Core Duo) MacBook Pro 17") and I'm not sure if it can be upgraded to the Lion OS.

Also, the computer took a nasty fall a few years ago and tweaked the upper and lower body frames a bit - not the computer overheats badly if I don't use a multi-fan cooling pad and a 3rd party internal fan control app...would getting new upper and lower body shells fix this?

Thanks!

You can easily do the Lion. You need to have a beta version of 10.7 so you can get into it and change some code so it thinks the processor is a Core2Duo. Even on the iMacs that I've have upgraded the processors from Core Duo to Core 2 Duo, I have since gone back in and downgraded to 10.6.8 because they wer slow and just didn't run right. I don't recommend even trying.

Furthermore, I don't know what your situation is, but I still have to work with a local Intranet whose requirements include "A PC with Windows XP or later, or a Mac with 10.6".

So, legacy does still exist, and Snow Leopard has still a niche. I just hope every legacy will find a replacement...
