Painting internal chassis and shields

Odd question I know. Can't find any info at all. I'm trying to retore/mod my falcon and jasper 360s, and the chassis/midframe are rusting. I'm trying NOT to buy new. I'd like to sand and paint them. Not sure what pai t or process may be since I do t want a smell of paint, tho gs to overheat, or creat issue. What kind of paint could I use? I was debating black or matte finish and just make them nice clean and new to me. This also includes the shields inside the case that clip in. Everyone o line only focuses on the exterior, im tring to do both interior and exterior.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Hi Brannon! What a interesting question! Well, I’am not that very experienced with paints or so, but I would take paint that can resist heat and is electronic friendly. A spray paint for metal is what I would use! But, maybe someone who have more experience with this, could have a better solution!

@brannonphillips it'll depend on how perfect you want thios to be. Also, keep in mind, do not paint over anything that i being utilized as ground.

It will help if we can see the parts you are thinking of painting and how badly corroded those are. Some of this will also depend on your own resources.

You can wire brush and sand those pieces if the rusting is just minor and readily accessible. If the pats are really "grubby" and corroded, I use Citric Acid (sounds wicked but it's not ;-) hang the parts in there over night. (It is non-toxic and biodegradable). Then rinse them off with some water and a quick sanding with a slightly abrasive pad will clean them nicely.

Now, if you are really wanting to remove the rust out of every nook and cranny, use electrolysis. Another spooky and wicked sounding way, but it's not dangerous nor difficult to achieve. I use this method to remove rust from old tools and machine parts. A setup like this will definitely work and should be well within anyone's budget(It is non-toxic and biodegradable)

Once all the rust is removed you could use something like Rustoleums automotive enamel Rattle Can (spray can) paint or you can use Eastwoods air spray clearcoat series for a nice finish. Use some nice coat of primer first and a tack clothes to clean of the fine dust. Once the paint is dry, it pretty much acts as an insulation and will not interfere with anything on your Xbox. Of course, you are going to do all of that in well ventilated area and not inside your house/room etc.

Depending on how badly rusted the shielding is it may not be readily repairable. That said, if it's minor, you should be able to use the tricks @oldturkey03 mentioned or a rust converter like this.

Once you convert the rust, you will need to paint over it. Depending on the area, cheap spray paint should be sufficient; don't spend $10 on cover paint when a $2 can of black spray paint is enough.

As far as paint and clearcoat, I'm going to lean on @oldturkey03 for that.
