Why wont my iMac recognise my iPod?

I have an old iPod 5th Generation with 30GB that my dad gave me.

Luckily I have the charging cable for it so I am able to connect it to my Imac 2017 computer and add in my preferred music however once I plugged it in, it just charged and did no show the display saying "do not take the plug out" or something.

So I looked into the setting and 'about' Which shows the device information and it said 'Format: Windows' as well as the 'version: 1.3' Could that be the reason why my imac is not recognising the device?

I've also restarted the ipod to see if anything happens but clearly not.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Your dad had a Windows system when he had this iPod, as such the iPod was configured for Windows use. You on the other hand are trying to use it with an iMac which will require a complete wipe and re-install so it works with your iMac.
