replacing logic board in 1ghz 12 g4 al pPowerBook

History

i have a 1ghz g4 powerbook 12" with a bad logic board. ive been searching and reading about putting a 1.33ghz board in since i can get the 1.33 board for the same price. so i was wondering is the modem the only issue? if i were to just not install modem would it work? or would i still need a new frame aswell? also is the heatsink he same? thanks :) - Taylor

It should work just fine. But if it were me, I'd go for the 1.5 GHz logic board, all else being equal. By the way, I've bought two of the 15" PowerBook G4's this week on eBay for under $120 each, so don't spend to much upgrading this machine.

would a 1.5 work? i thought it was different on th 12" ?

Taylor wittman,

Here's iFixits photo of the 1 GHz & the 1.5 GHz logic boards: http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Installing-P... the ports and screw holes look the same to me, the model is the same, it should work just fine. http://www.ifixit.com/PowerBook-Parts/G4...

mayer,

i ended up buying 1.33 board for about 40 bucks. so ill see how this goes. btw isnt ebay just great. i got this powerbook in working order for 45 bucks. i accedently destroyed board removing power connector that goes to power button. this has happened to me twice now. the first time i was able to solder it back but this time a bunch of the green from the board came off and there was no where to solder lol i may end up rigging a longer cable with connector on cable next time idk thanks
