Why does my Canon AE-1 Program lever jam after 20 exposures?

I just got my ae1 program and I’ve used 2 rolls of 36 exposure film. Yet when I take my 20th picture and I try to advance the lever it feels as if it becomes jammed and the lever won’t budge. I’m able to rewind the film but because of this I’m losing 15+ exposures.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

There is a clutch in the film take-up spool which does wear-out. Its a bit of work to take apart and you’ll need to get the needed replacement parts,
