Does the 2017 21.5” Non-4K iMac have a socketed CPU?

Is the CPU on base model 2017 21.5” iMac EMC 3068 modular/socketed/removable as are the 4K models? I see info for 4Ks but not base model.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

I haven’t opened one yet so I can’t tell you from experience what it has. But doing a bit of sleuthing we can see the chip appears to be socketed!

Now the rub! If you are thinking you can upgrade this to the i7-7700 you won’t be able to as the 4K models use a different socket (FCLGA1151)!

Thanks, Dan! I was indeed hoping to upgrade to the i7 7700. Between your news that socket difference and Adam O'Camb pointing out that (within a differnt question thread) the CPU is indeed soldered to the board on this model, I will have to change my plans. Can I put in quad core CPU and 32Gb RAM?

I guess I'm getting old, I forgot Adam's note.
